Exam Time - The Effect of Music on the Human Stress Response - I listen to Binaural Waves...15/5/2016 “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says
'I'm possible'!” - Audrey Hepburn - Our Endocrine System and Nervoussystem is responding to our lifestyle. So if we feel stressed out our Sympathetic Nervoussystem is responsing (like I explained earlier last moth). We can activate our parasympathetic NS with Yoga Asanas, Pranayama, Breathing techniques and also with Music. Therefore, I found Binaurale Sounds on youtube, wich is amazing to use also for studying. If I would not have learned in Anatomy how our Nervoussystem & endocrine system works, I would not believe this. But our body just response to our environment. When we listen to music, the music comes as different waves to our brain. The hypothalamus send than activating hormones to the Pituitary gland from the there again different hormones becomes activated and activate more hormones in our body, like in the Thyroid gland etc. wich have a huge effect on our body, feeling and behavior. Because everything we experiance with our senses comes a reaction of our hypothalamus, we experiance actually nothing outside, but inside in our body. A picture which we see, music we are listen... all that are just chemical reaction in our body. If you are interested just study our endocrine and Nervoussystem online and find out about what I am talking. ;-) On youtube they explain very nicely. - Here is some study music for you.- Article from http://en.citizendium.org Effect of music on physiological parameters Bernardi et al. studied the effect of two minute lasting presentations of different styles of music on the cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and respiratory systems[2]. They observed that the faster the tempi the higher ventilation, breathing rate, blood flow velocity, systolic and diastolic blood pressures and heart rate. It is worth mentioning that these effects appeared to depend on the speed of the music rather than on the style. But the most interesting finding is that "listening" to a two minute rest was characterized by the lowest rates of these factors[3]. Hence, passive listening to music accelerates breathing and increases blood pressure and heart rate proportional to the tempo and perhaps to the complexity of the rhythm. In general, an arousal effect proportional to the speed of music was observed, where slower rhythm induced relaxation. Especially a pause may be crucially important in determining some of the relaxing effects of music. These findings imply an alternative technique of relaxation without the active participation of the subject, that in turn could be very helpful in comatose patients. An appropriate selection of music and pauses can be used to induce relaxation and reduce sympathetic activity that may be potentially useful in the management of cardiovascular diseases. Today I was walking alone through the Campus and was thinking about the Storry of Ramayana... I will explain the meaning later. Why Ramayana? I had to study this and watched on Youtube a kids movie about it. Than I checked the symbolic meaning from Art of living. And yes, again I think it makes so much sense for me. We need to control our mind to find happiness within and salvation of sorrow. It seems difficult for me arround all the people here to get this kind of feeling. Too many thoughts about other things and other people come into my mind. I can not become quite. Maybe that is why I should not have so many people around me here... I am totaly sure, really every little thing what happens in our life makes sense and I am learning to understand more and more about it. Nature seems to be so perfect. ...What is it, what makes it so perfect? How is every plant, every organism so perfect constructed? And why do we not pay more attention to it in our invironment? I became so happy, just observing the different Flowers and Trees and the little Animals at our Campus. :o) ... When I don`t give attention to all my differnent thoughts in my mind, and I look just at the Nature as it is, I see only God. This thoughts made me today very calm and happy. All worries become so small... Let`s go on and and work on the combining of our Mind and sould with the help of our Breath. My practise: Asanas, Pranayama and Meditation in combination. (Ramayana symbolic below) What is Ramayana?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: http://www.artofliving.org/worshiping-gods It is said that the Ramayana is happening in your own body. Your soul is Rama, your mind is Sita, your breath or life-force is Hanuman, your awareness is Laxmana and your ego is Ravana. When the mind was stolen by Ravana (the ego) then the soul got restless. Now the soul cannot reach the mind on its own, it has to take the help of the breath - the prana. With the help of the prana, the mind got reunited with the soul, and the ego vanished. This is the spiritual significance of the story. Otherwise Hanuman was a monkey, and in those days the monkeys were also very intelligent and very devoted. Devotees are much more powerful than the master himself. This is a fact. Real devotees are much more powerful than God. For the term being used to be well understood, the meaning of Ramayana is that a soul (Ram) enters (Ayana) into play the activities of human form. It is Uttarayana when the Sun enters the zodiac/rasi of Capricorn/ Makara called as Makar sankranti. Thus there is philosophical and astrological significance attached to the characters of Ramayana: Dashratha as Purusha is the vehicle of human body consisting of ten senses of perception and action. His three wives Kaushalaya, Sumitra and Kakayee denotes Nature (Prakriti) consisting of three qualities of Sattvic (Harmony), Rajastic (Movement) and Tamsic (Inertia). They have four sons Rama, Bharat, Shatrughan and Laxman representing Soul (Atma), Consciousness (Chit), Intellect (Buddhi) and Mind (Manas). There are two preceptors (Gurus) namely Vasishta and Vishwamitra which represents two kinds of knowledge. Vashishta is deductive method of knowledge from general instance to particular instance. Vishwamitra is inductive method of knowledge from particular instance to general instance. Prime Minister Sumant denotes wise counselling. Taraka denotes as focused concentration, Sabahu as scatteredness and Marichi as dubiousness, Ahalaya denotes inertia, Janak denotes wisdom, Janaki as knowledge, Urmila meeting of heart, Mandvi, extension of consciousness, Shruti Keerti, intellect derived through sermons of scriptures. Manthra denotes the abscene of intellect. The soul, mind and knowledge leaving the body in the form of Rama, Laxman and Janaki denotes the death of Dashratha. Naushad denotes equanimity of mind, Kewat denotes journey to next world. Panchvati denotes the five elements as earth, water, fire, air and ether. SarupNakha denotes demonical faculties. Marichi in the form of gold deer denotes Jyeshta nakshatra in Scorpio sign. Dashanan Ravana denotes ten perverted faculties. Jatayu denotes spiritual faculties. Hanumanji denotes faculties of perception, consciousness, will, intellect, feeling and dynamism. Sugreeva denotes nobleness. Bali denotes bodily strength. Angad denotes the powerful limbs of the body. Nal and Neel denotes the blue water of the ocean. Lanka denotes Sagittarius sign. Sursa denotes crocodile and Capricorn sign where Mars is exalted. Half burnt Lanka by the tail of Hanumanji denotes the Moola nakshatra in Sagittarius sign. Meghnad denotes the power of lightening and thundering sound. Kumbhkaran denotes the power of inhaling breath to sleep. Vibheeshan denotes devotional faculties, Madri denotes weakness of digestive power, cup of Nectar in the navel of Ravana denotes the solar energies constantly received from the Sun life giver in Manipur chakra of power of kundalini. On dashmi of Ashwin month Ravana was killed by Rama which denotes the Moon in the tenth sign Capricorn. Rama the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu and Hanumanji were both born in chaitra month denotes the Sun in Pisces sign. Sita reincarnation of Lakshmi denotes Venus exalted in Pisces sign. The last months are not so easy for me here. I have to keep myself in a positive mood to get not depressed. I miss my beloved ones - Jay, my friends and my family and I have to study so much, that I think sometimes it is inpossible... But God have sent me here for a reason. Maybe the greatest knowledge I will get at the campus is to know more about myself. How much I can do, to improve myself in thinking, expectation, being independet happy alone, handling of strange situations etc. ... Every day I tell myself "it`s ok like it is. No need to be stressed. I am in a different environment to learn. I am strong". Sometimes the pressure becomes very high and telling myself to stay relaxed won`t help. So what to do? ... Yes, I do my own asana practise and meditate at least half an hour. With the practise I can keep myself positive. Meditation is a great way to release tension and best practised after doing your Asana practise. You will feel relexed and focused on your important goals. So whenever we get time for ourself we should use the time for us and practise. Thats the best gift we can give ourself. :o) >> Read below from Medical Angle From the time of our birth till death the heart works continuosly. Everyday the heart pumps 7000 litres of blood ,of which 70% blood is pumped to the brain and the remaining 30% to the rest of body. The blood is pumped through veins/arteries which are about more than 70,000 km long. The strength required to pump the blood upto 42 ft high and weight of 1 tonne is generated by the heart everyday throught its work. We take rest when we are tired but if the heart takes rests for 4-5 mins we will have to rest forever. How does the heart work so much effeciently and effectively? Heart works effectively because it follows a discipline. In normal conditions the heart takes 0.3 secs to contract (systole) and 0.5 secs to relax (diastole). So 0.3 + 0.5 = 0.8 secs are required by the heart to complte one beat (1 cardiac cycle). That means in 1 mn the heart beats 72 times which is considered as normal heart beat. During the relaxing phase of 0.5 secs the impure blood travels through the lungs and becomes 100 % pure. In some stressful conditions the body demands more blood in less time and in this situation the heart reduces the relaxing period of 0.5 secs to 0.4 secs. Thus in this case the heart beats 82 times in 1min and only 80% of blood gets purified. On more & more demand the relaxing time is further reduced to 0.3 sec. - then only 60% of blood is purified. Thus 20-40% of impure blood is pumped in the veins/ arteries. These impure components (cholestrol/lipid) gets deposited on the walls of arteries/ veins and thus the elastic nature of the veins and the arteries is lost. So they become plastic in nature. After some time due to the above conditions the veins/arteries become rigid. Now if a blood clot travels through the veins/ arteries ( which in normal conditions gets easily passed away due to the elastic nature earlier) gets blocked and resists blood flow in that area. This results in a blockage which further results in Heart Attack. From the above discussion we realise that the main reason for the heart problems is the increase demand of blood by the brain and the body. When the activity of brain is stimulated it demands more amount of blood than that of normal conditions. To stimulate the activity of brain 25-30% of diet we take is responsible whereas the remaining 70-75% is due to the thinking, emotions, attitude, memories and other processes of the brain. So those who want to keep their heart working effectively for a long period of time they should protect themselves from - worries, anger, sadness, emotional n sensitive behavior, stress and hurry . To protect ourselves from the above few things there is no MEDICATION available. So the only option is MEDITATION. << *written by my friend Akash Chavhan |
